Trying to Relive the Old Days
This past weekend was our annual alumni weekend basketball tournament. This is a weekend that on one hand I look forward to and on the other hand I dread. The reason I like it is because I still enjoy playing basketball and believe it or not our games do have flashes of the old days (once in a while). The reason I dread it is because on Sunday I usually feel like I've been run over by a truck and it makes me a little sad because it means next year I will be a year older. The competitive side of me makes my try hard to keep up with the young kids and there were several times on the weekend when my mind told me I could get to the ball before somebody else, but the body doesn't quite react that fast. But it was a fun time and all the bruises and the sore muscles today are worth it.

Boy do I relate to what you're saying . . . I've been trying to get back into shape since June but I'm still sore after a game of indoor soccer. It's like you said -- my mind knows what I need to do, but my body doesn't quite work as fast as my mind, then I'm really sore the next day. I keep thinking it will get easier each week, but I'm not progressing nearly as fast as I think I should. I'm setting a goal of running a 1/2 marathon in April with Rita -- so I really need to keep it going. Good luck with the basketball - I really wish I could still play that!
You're making me jealous, Shelley. After watching you play softball this summer, I know you've still got it! Way to go!
